Wilson was in his office, still a bit wound up from his long talk with Julie that morning. He was; however, in a pretty good mood… he just couldn't seem to concentrate on anything.
With a sigh, he kicked his feet up on his desk and leaned back in his seat.
Faye timidly knocked on James' door. Why she was wishing to enter his office? She still didn't know, she was hoping to not have to have an excuse. She was on her break, she was bored, and she didn't want to attempt the cafeteria food. Faye saw a light on in James' office, she didn't think it would hurt. Feeling like breaking the rules, Faye had on some dark jeans, a fitted pink tank top, and a white labcoat.
"It's open," James said lazily.
Faye slipped through the door and gave a nervous smile, "Afternoon, Dr. Wilson," she said as she stood in front of his desk considering whether to sit down or not. After all, it wasn't her office.
Wilson laughed and gestured for her to come sit down. "Thought you'd impersonate a doctor today? Or have they shoved you in the morgue for your shift?"
Faye grinned, "I'm a rebel, I didn't feel like scrubs today. So sue me." She slumped into the chair in front of James' desk and leaned her elbows on his desk and massaged her temples, it had been a tough morning. "Two motorcycle accidents, three sets of stitches needed to be taken off, overload of filing..." she trailed off and sighed.
"While I have done nothing yet, I'm even behind on my paperwork. I'm being a rebel today also," James said with a wink.
Faye looked up and grinned again, "Tsk, tsk James. I mean - Dr. Wilson." Shit. She sighed, James at dinner, Dr. Wilson at the workplace. She always forgets. Giving a nervous smile Faye said, "Um... I had a nice time at dinner. I really do need to cook for you now." Faye winked back.
"I did too, it was really nice," James smiled and sat up straight, putting his feet back on the floor.
"You don't have to cook though, really," he laughed.
Her southern hospitality came out, "Oh, but I insist! So what do you prefer, chicken or beef? Slaw or macaroni and cheese?" Faye laughed, "Dr. Wilson, you would have to be an idiot to refuse my cooking." Then Faye stood up, turned the chair around, and sat down still facing Wilson. She was all about comfort.
"Alright, well see," he said with a grin. He tapped his fingers on the desk and sighed. "You know, usually I love being here... but today I just can't wait to get out."
Faye raised a fine brow, "Get out to where?" she asked. She remembers the kiss she shared with James and wondered if he thought about it now and then. After all, it had been four days. And, though Faye would hate to admit it, she enjoyed the kiss.
"I actually have to go home to my ex-wife tonight," James said with a shrug. "I promised I'd... be there."
Ex-wife? Faye blushed, surely he wasn't still married. "Oh," was all she said as she diverted her attention to the floor. Ex-wife. Well, it's not like Faye was foreign to divorces; her family was chock-full of it. But she never thought Dr. Wilson would be the... type?
"Third wife actually," James said with a laugh. He paused and then looked down. "Sorry, it's just been a rough day."
Third?! Yeesh. Eheh. "I know how you feel," Faye said as she smiled at him. It couldn't be so bad. "And I always thought third time was a charm," Faye said jokingly. Faye then stood up and pulled out a bag from behind her. She really needed to change the subject, "I got you a present," she said grinning. Faye reached inside the bag and pulled out a straw cowboy hat.
"Oh god," James said with a laugh. "I can't wear that!" He shook his head and smiled at her.
"But you must!" Faye laughed and put the hat on her head and cocked it to the side over her left eye. She then looked at James and made a kissy face.
James laughed and shook his head, "You're nuts, you know that?" He teased. "Oh, and what's this I hear about you getting my staff into trouble?" he asked with a grin.
Faye's eyes widened and she blushed. "Oh... about that. Well, Dr. Stanton and I were transferrin' files and this kid was bein' real snobby, so I stuck his sucker in his hair..." her blush got even more rose, "and him and his mom chased after us and we ran into the file room and hid. They left eventually, so... no one was sued! That's good, right?" Oh god, she really didn't want to get fired. Faye walked over to James, one hand on the hat on her head and she batted her eyelashes, "Please don't fire me?"
"Oh trust me, that's nothing," James said with a laugh, "I wouldn't worry about it."
Faye just shook her head and put the cowboy hat on Wilson." You can at least wear it for now in your office," Faye reasoned. She bent down in front of his face and fixed his hair as she usually did when he wore a cowboy hat. When she finished she whispered, "Perfect."
"Alright," James said. "But if anyone walks in, I'm telling them you made me do it!" He said with a grin.
Faye grinned and perched on his desk, "You have no proof." Faye slipped off her lab jacket and observed Wilson. "Really, if you were on a tractor now you'd look like a nice southern boy." She laughed.
Wilson laughed, "You better not be sitting on my paperwork."
Faye smirked, "What are you gonna do about it?" Oh my, she was egging him on. Faye's hormones were... untrustworthy.
James stood up and picked her up. "Nope, no papers there," he laughed.
Faye squirmed, "That tickles!" she managed to squeak out. All the squirming probably wasn't helping James with her mid-air in his arms. So, the inevitable happened, she fell.
James laughed and went to help her back up, "You alright?" He asked, honestly concerned, but unable to stop laughing.
Faye just flopped over on her back. God, how embarrassing. "Number one," she began, "This is the second time in two days I've fallen. Number two, it's your fault. And number three, I'm staying on the floor. I think I'll be safer that way." A smirk formed on her face at her indignancy after her little speech.
"Well fine then," James said with a grin, sitting back in his chair. "You can just stay on the floor."
Faye gave a little 'hmph', "I will. Though if I move just a little to the left," she grinned, "I can see right up your britches."
"You can not," James said nudging her with his foot and grinning.
"James, your boxers are pink with little red hearts all over them," Faye said jokingly. From the nudge, she made her fingers walk up his calf and then back down. She then decided to tickle him back, payback for the two times he had done it. She sat up and poked him in the side. So childish.
"Hey!" James laughed, catching her hands in his. "None of that! I have to be a responsible adult while behind my desk."
Faye laughed and said, "Right, a responsible adult...with a cowboy hat." They were still holding hands. "But you are ticklish," Faye concluded triumphantly.
"Yes, you now know all my dark secrets," James winked. He let go of her hands and pulled off the hat, turning it over in his hands.
Aw, fun's over. Faye smiled and remarked, "Not much for having fun, are you?" He seemed so... distant lately.
"I'm just... There's a lot going on right now," he explained.
She just now noticed it, he looked so tired. "You look exhausted, James." Faye moved around to the back of his chair and started to massage James' shoulders. She could feel how tense he was and started to massage the knots in his shoulders before slowly moving up to his neck.
"Please, don't," James said brushing her hands away. "Faye, I really like you... But right now... My ex-wife is pregnant, and it may or may not be mine. I just; I can't play these games right now. I'm sorry." He felt guilty brushing her off, but he didn't want to lead her on... or have her hands that close to his back.
Faye's gut twisted, she didn't mean to upset him. "She's... pregnant?" Her brow furrowed, "Oh James, I'm so sorry. I understand and - and I appreciate that you have my feelings in mind. But - But I'm still here if you need me. I'm still your friend." Faye took Wilson's hand in hers in a friendly gesture and said, "I've witnessed a lot of babying of you lately James and I know you're a grown man. You can make your own decisions. But it doesn't hurt to have someone to lean on. And if I could help you in any way..." she trailed off, she didn't know how to take this. Just a few days ago they were sharing their firsts kiss, now he's telling her that his ex-wife is pregnant with a baby that may be his?!
"Thanks," James said quietly. "Look Faye, when this all gets sorted out, I'd love to take you out again."
She didn't know what to say. "James, I would be delighted," was her answer as she leaned in to give him a light kiss on the cheek as she got up from his desk.
"I should get back to work," He said with a sigh.
Faye nodded and left, still shocked from all that had happened.
